Food For Thought

Nothing makes sense when you are hungry. That is why we help ensure that food-insecure students are fed over weekends and holidays.

What We Provide

Backpack programs exist in schools across the country, serving children who are identified as “food-insecure” by a teacher, counselor, or parent. We rely on volunteers to pack bags of food that contain child-friendly, nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare meals and snacks. Then we deliver them each week to schools and other sites for distribution on Friday afternoons.

At the middle school and high school level, students will typically choose items from a pantry at the school. Some food is secured through the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and some of it is donated by local organizations, churches, groups, and individuals.

Volunteer With Us!

We rely on volunteers to fulfill our mission. Be a part of providing help, healing, and hope to your community.

Helping hands are needed to drive a van, a truck, or your own car; to pick up and unload food, to check to produce and stock shelves, check-in our neighbors, help with cleanup, or just be a smiling face. Whatever your gifts, skills, and passions, we’re happy to help you put them to good use. Come visit us to see everyone in action!
